Key Responsibilities and Tasks
- Community Mobilization and Engagement
- Engage with community members to raise awareness about the importance of hygiene and sanitation.
- Conduct focus group discussions, household visits, and community meetings to promote hygiene education.
- Build relationships with community leaders and other stakeholders to facilitate community involvement in WASH activities.
- Hygiene Promotion Activities
- Develop and implement hygiene promotion sessions on topics such as handwashing, safe water handling, personal hygiene, food hygiene, and environmental cleanliness.
- Promote key hygiene messages and encourage behavior change through innovative approaches (e.g., drama, role plays, or visual aids).

- Distribute hygiene kits and supplies as needed and provide guidance on their use.
- Training and Capacity Building
- Train community volunteers, health workers, and peer educators on hygiene promotion methodologies and key messages.
- Support the formation and training of community health committees.
- Monitoring and Evaluation
- Monitor and document the impact of hygiene promotion activities using surveys, observation, and other tools.
- Collect data and prepare regular reports on hygiene promotion activities and outcomes.

- Identify challenges and propose solutions to improve hygiene promotion activities.
- Coordination and Reporting
- Coordinate hygiene promotion activities with the WASH team and other sectors (e.g., health, nutrition) to ensure integrated approaches.
- Participate in WASH cluster meetings and other relevant coordination forums.
- Report to the WASH Officer/Project Manager on activities, achievements, and challenges.
- Supportive Supervision
- Conduct regular field visits to ensure quality and consistency of hygiene promotion activities.
- Provide feedback and support to community health workers and volunteers.
- Other Duties
- Assist with other WASH-related activities as needed.
- Promote gender sensitivity and inclusivity in all activities.
- Ensure compliance with organizational policies and standards.
Job Requirements:
Qualifications and Experience
- Education:
- A degree or diploma in Public Health, Community Development, Social Sciences, or a related field.
- Experience:
- Minimum of 1-3 years of experience in hygiene promotion or community mobilization in humanitarian or development contexts.
- Experience working with vulnerable and marginalized communities.
- Skills and Competencies:
- Good knowledge of public health and hygiene practices.
- Strong interpersonal and communication skills.
- Ability to facilitate group discussions and conduct training sessions.
- Understanding of gender and protection issues.
- Proficiency in local languages and understanding of cultural norms.
- Ability to work independently and in a team.
